Zambia, a former British colony, is a land-locked country in Southern Africa, sharing borders with eight other countries, Angola and Namibia to the west, Botswana and Zimbabwe to the south, DR Congo to the north, Tanzania and Mozambique to the east. English is the official language and is well spoken by average Zambians. It gained its name from the Mighty Zambezi River which basically denotes the presence of God and is home to the Victoria Falls. Since independence in 1964, the country has enjoyed peace without unmanaged violet conflict despite having many tribes of 72 ethnic groups, many religions, many languages, different viewpoints sharing unity in diversity unlike some neighboring countries.
The country has a vibrant and thriving democracy with six presidents having been elected to govern the country since independence in 1964; Dr. Kenneth Kaunda was the first Republic President, the late Presidents Frederick Chiluba (deceased), State counsel President Levy Mwanawansa (deceased),President Ruphiah Banda (living), President Michael Chilufya Sata (deceased) and President Edgar Chagwa Lungu (living).
