Southern Africa is child-friendly and an excellent choice for a family holiday. All countries in the region uphold family values and many resorts offer excellent facilities for children. That being said, there are better places to go and others that might be less comfortable with kids. For example, travel into the Okavango Delta can be long-winded and involve watercraft and light aircraft. That might not be ideal when traveling with kids, so bear that in mind in your planning. Also note that most safari lodges only take children aged 6 and above, especially on the game drives.
What about crime in Southern Africa?
As with everywhere in the world that we’ve been, there are areas that are unsafe. That being said, we advise guests to follow the usual protocol: don’t leave valuables visible in the car, try to dress inconspicuously, without flashy jewellery, and listen to your guides if they ask you to do something for safety.
